Icelandic horse riders from all over the world are riding to Landsmót 2014 in Iceland
Up to Hella is the name of the Ride to Landsmót 2014, Iceland's national horse festival, which will be held from 30th June - 6th July in Hella, Southern Iceland.
And it so happens that every year at the end of January, Europe´s largest Viking fire festival called Up Helly Aa is celebrated in Shetland. So let's take that in on the way! We will ride to Hella (virtually), and whilst on the move, we might just join the party...
HOW?
The idea is simple: you calculate the distance from your home to Hella, and then, starting on 16th November 2013, you add up all the kilometres you spend with your horse, hacking out wherever you are. Every month you send in your total distance which is then displayed on a common scoreboard and - we´ll see how far we get. Admittedly, the distance to Hella is quite a bit further than riding to Berlin where in a common effort 30 riders from the UK achieved an astonishing 24,397 km together. This is why you are encouraged to form into teams of 2-10 riders who will add their total ridden kilometres together to get to the target. Shared fun is twice the fun!
Once you are on the way, share your adventures by sending in stories and pictures at any time. And please join our fb site!
